Candidate Guidelines

North Royalton Democratic Club - Candidate Guidelines

All candidates are encouraged to submit their website address to northroyaltondems@gmail.com to be shared with our club. Our board has developed the following protocols for candidate support:

Club Meetings

Our club prides itself on keeping to our agendas to (a) honor our members’ time, and (b) ensure we maintain our goals of educating and taking productive action. 

1. Candidates can email us at northroyaltondems@gmail.com at least 1 week before the meeting to request 5-10 minutes of speaking time. The total time limit will be dependent on our agenda and how many candidates request to speak at the meeting.

2. Candidates can pop-in to a meeting, but must limit their speaking time to 2 minutes. If there are no other candidates appearing or we have a limited agenda, we may, in our sole discretion, allow additional time for audience questions.

Events

1. Club may host/co-host an event with state-wide candidates, with a disclaimer we are not endorsing said candidate

2. Club may host/co-host a Candidate Meet and Greet Panel event to give members a chance to meet many candidates at once (or advertise and support such an event led by another organization, such as the League of Women Voters) 

3. Club may advertise events for candidates, by promoting their events in our emails and on social media, with a disclaimer that we are not endorsing said candidate

Endorsed Candidates

1. All endorsed candidates will be included in our election materials - e.g. election guide, mailers, etc.

2. Endorsed candidates wishing to speak at our meetings prior to a primary election should follow the guidelines outlined above. Endorsed candidates wishing to speak at our meetings after a primary election and before the general election should email northroyaltondems@gmail.com to arrange speaking engagements as soon as practicable before the meeting at which they wish to speak in order to maximize time.

Fundraisers

1. Club shall not host/co-host fundraisers for non-endorsed candidates

2. Club may host/co-host a fundraiser for endorsed candidates
